The use of "Mrs." in this context is somewhat unusual. In the 1840 Census for North Carolina, a search on www.ancestry.com reveals 259 households headed by "Mrs." somebody. Approximately 100 of these were in a single county (Richmond), indicating that it may simply be a peculiarity of the enumerator. "Mrs. John Norris" is the only person listed this way in Ashe County. Admittedly, his age as reported in the census differs by a few years from the family Bible and earlier censuses. However, since he's living between his stepmother and his widowed sister-in-law, and states that both of his parents were born in North Carolina, I think this is the same person. Also, there is no other David Norris in Tennessee who even comes close to being the right age.
